BBL Playoffs 2027: Germany’s basketball postseason explained

BBL playoffs 2027 dates: the expected calendar

The Basketball Bundesliga typically publishes its playoff calendar during the regular season, once television arrangements and arena availability are settled. For the BBL playoffs 2027, no official dates have been released yet. Based on 2026, when the play-in games were played on 12 and 14 May and the Finals ran from 12 to 21 June, the 2027 postseason is expected to start in mid-May, with quarterfinals in the second half of May, semifinals at the turn of May and June and the Finals in June. These are estimates derived from the previous season and should not be treated as confirmed. Series in German basketball are often played every two or three days, with occasional longer breaks for television or arena reasons. Arenas shared with ice hockey teams or other events can also influence scheduling, especially in cities with busy venues. If you are planning to attend, keep a flexible window and watch for the official calendar, which the BBL playoffs 2027 alert on this page will relay as soon as it is published.

How the play-in works in the BBL playoffs 2027

The play-in gives the teams finishing seventh to tenth a final chance to reach the quarterfinals. The format mirrors the one used in the EuroLeague and the NBA: the seventh-placed team hosts the eighth, and the winner takes the seventh seed; the ninth hosts the tenth, and the loser is eliminated; then the loser of the first game hosts the winner of the second for the eighth seed. In 2026 these games took place on 12 and 14 May. For the BBL playoffs 2027, a similar timing is expected, immediately after the final round of the regular season. For fans, the play-in means very short notice. Home teams are only confirmed when the regular season ends, and tickets are typically sold within days. Season-ticket holders often have priority, followed by a short public sale. If your club is fighting for a place between seventh and tenth, follow its announcements closely in the final weeks of the regular season.

BBL playoffs 2027 format: best-of-five series in a 2-2-1 pattern

After the play-in, eight teams contest the quarterfinals: the first seed faces the eighth, the second the seventh, the third the sixth and the fourth the fifth. Every round is a best-of-five series. Since 2026, the league has used a 2-2-1 home pattern, which means the higher seed hosts Games 1 and 2, the lower seed hosts Games 3 and 4, and a potential Game 5 returns to the higher seed. This change gave the higher seed a stronger start in each series and affected how clubs plan their home games and ticket sales. The BBL playoffs 2027 are expected to keep this format, although any change would be announced by the league before the season ends. For ticket buyers, the 2-2-1 pattern means each team is guaranteed two home games per series, with a potential third for the higher seed. Games 4 and 5 are conditional, so check how your club handles refunds for games that are not played. Because series can be decided in three games, conditional games are common, and policies vary from club to club.

Arenas and atmosphere at the BBL playoffs 2027

German basketball arenas range from large multi-purpose venues to compact halls with steep stands and a very close atmosphere. Alba Berlin play at the Uber Arena in Berlin for major games, a large arena that can hold well over ten thousand spectators, while Bayern Munich play at the SAP Garden in the Olympic Park, a modern arena opened in 2024. Other clubs use smaller venues where demand for playoff tickets can exceed supply very quickly. Wherever the BBL playoffs 2027 take place, expect passionate home crowds, organised supporters' groups and a lively but generally family-friendly atmosphere. Visitors should note that many German clubs sell tickets with assigned seating and that some arenas have specific rules on bags, food and drink. Public transport is usually the best way to reach the venue, and in several cities match tickets may include local public transport. Check the details on your ticket before travelling.

How BBL playoffs 2027 tickets are sold

Each club sells tickets for its own home playoff games. Season-ticket holders, known as Dauerkarteninhaber, usually have priority and can often buy their seats for playoff games before anyone else. Club members and registered fans may receive a presale, and any remaining tickets go on public sale through the club's official ticketing channels, often only a few days before each game. For the BBL playoffs 2027, availability will depend heavily on the club: larger arenas offer more opportunities, while smaller halls can sell out to season-ticket holders alone. Most clubs offer mobile or print-at-home tickets, and some require an account with the club's ticketing system. Resale is less widespread than in North America, and some clubs run their own official resale platforms where season-ticket holders can sell seats they cannot use. Always compare total prices including fees and check the seat category before buying, as some categories have a restricted view.

Indicative BBL playoffs 2027 ticket prices

The price table on this page gives indicative ranges, not quotes. As a rough estimate, quarterfinal tickets for standard seats in the BBL playoffs 2027 often cost between twenty and seventy euros, while Finals tickets typically range from about thirty-five to one hundred and fifty euros, depending on the club, the arena and the seat category. Premium and VIP seats are considerably more expensive. Prices in German basketball are generally lower than for comparable games in other major European leagues, which makes the BBL an attractive option for fans looking for high-level basketball at a reasonable cost. Demand can still push prices up for decisive games, especially a Game 5 in the Finals or a series involving the two traditional powerhouses. Use the ranges as a guide and check the clubs' official prices when sales open. Family and reduced tickets for students or children are common in German basketball, so check whether you qualify before buying a full-price seat for a playoff game.

Indicative ranges only — not quotes. Playoff prices move with matchups, seeding and series length; check the live price before buying.

Travelling to the BBL playoffs 2027

Germany's rail network makes it relatively easy to travel between cities for playoff games, and many arenas are well served by public transport. If you plan to follow a series, booking flexible train tickets and accommodation is the safest approach, because the dates of Games 3 to 5 depend on the progress of the series. Berlin and Munich are major travel hubs with many hotels, but smaller cities can have limited accommodation on busy weekends, so book early once the matchup is known. International visitors can combine the BBL playoffs 2027 with other events in late spring, such as football cup finals or cultural festivals, depending on the city. Fans travelling from abroad should check whether tickets are personalised and bring identification if required. Several BBL cities, including Berlin, Munich, Bamberg, Ulm and Ludwigsburg, have a long basketball tradition, and a visit to a playoff game can be combined with exploring the city or its surroundings, which turns a single evening into a pleasant weekend even if the series ends sooner than expected.

BBL playoffs 2027 FAQ

These questions cover what fans most often ask about the BBL playoffs 2027 before the league publishes its calendar: when the postseason starts, how the play-in and series work, who the reigning champions are and how to buy tickets. The answers are based on the 2026 season, the format introduced that year and general practices of German clubs, and they make clear which details are still estimates. Because each club handles playoff ticketing slightly differently, checking your club's policies early and setting an alert are the best ways to be ready when sales open, often with only a few days' notice in May and June. This FAQ is updated as soon as the league publishes its official playoff calendar, so it remains a reliable reference throughout the spring, and the alert on this page sends a short email when dates are confirmed, without any other messages in between, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

When do the BBL playoffs 2027 start?

The league has not yet published the dates of the BBL playoffs 2027. Based on the 2026 season, when the play-in games were played on 12 and 14 May and the Finals ran from 12 to 21 June, the 2027 play-in is expected in mid-May, followed by quarterfinals in the second half of May, semifinals around the end of May and early June, and the Finals in June. These dates are estimates and may change depending on the final schedule of the regular season, television arrangements and arena availability. The Basketball Bundesliga usually confirms the calendar during the season. If you plan to attend, keep your plans flexible for mid-May to late June and set an alert so you hear when the official schedule is released. Remember that home teams for the play-in are only known after the last regular-season round, so the first tickets of the postseason are sold at very short notice.

Who won the BBL title in 2026 before the BBL playoffs 2027?

Alba Berlin won the 2026 German championship, beating Bayern Munich three games to two in the Finals played between 12 and 21 June 2026. Bayern won Game 1 102-94, Alba won Game 2 86-79, Bayern took Game 3 91-83, Alba forced a fifth game with a 71-61 victory and then won the title with an 84-81 win in Game 5. The series confirmed the rivalry between the two clubs as the central storyline of German basketball in recent years. Alba enter the BBL playoffs 2027 as defending champions, but qualification and seeding are decided over the regular season, and this guide does not predict the outcome. Other clubs have reached the Finals in past seasons, and the play-in format gives more teams a chance to make a run. A lower seed that survives the play-in can still reach the semifinals, as upsets are part of the history of German playoff basketball.

How do I buy BBL playoffs 2027 tickets?

Tickets for the BBL playoffs 2027 are sold by each home club through its official ticketing channels. Season-ticket holders usually have priority, followed by club members or registered fans and then the general public. Sales often open only a few days before each game, once the matchups and dates are confirmed. Create an account with your club's ticketing system in advance if necessary, and check whether tickets are mobile, print-at-home or personalised. Some clubs offer official resale platforms for season-ticket holders who cannot attend, which can be a good source of tickets for sold-out games. Always compare prices including fees, check the seat category and read the refund conditions for conditional games. Setting the alert on this page helps you hear about schedule announcements and ticket releases as soon as they happen. Acting on the first day of a public sale usually gives the best choice of seats and categories.
